How to send videos by a 3G mobile phone
In order to send videos by email through a 3G mobile phone, you need know:
• A video has not to be 295Kb heavier.
• To send an email, send a MMS.
Principles
The 3G net allows sending MMSs and attachments included. A MMS is SMS’s evolution. The difference from a SMS is that a MMS can include attachments (a video or a photo for example).
The weight of a video
By now (April 2006) the 3G net accepts MMSs 295Kb heavy at maximum. In a few months, this limit will be extended to 700kb.
The duration of a video
A 3GP standard format video ( 295Kb heavy ) made by a mobile lasts almost 30 seconds. So, today, that is the longest duration of a video to be sent by a mobile.
How to do?
most of mobiles have a video mode – To send MMSs - which will stop automatically to record after 30 seconds unless you have manually stopped it before.
After a video is shot, go to « my items » and through the menu « pop-pup » usually accessible by the button up on the left of the telephone keyboard, ask to send it.
You can enter a telephone number in the sending window: if the recipient has a 3G telephone, she/he will get the video through her/his mobile; if she/he does not have a 3G telephone, she/he will get an SMS to invite her/him to go to a web site and to look for the video.
In fact, you can also enter an email address in the MMS sending window and there you can receive an email with the video attached.
Your mobile allows you to create “contacts” which have no telephone number but email address.
How to not mistake
3G telephones have also a function « email ». But that might not be good at sending an email! The use of such a function might be a mistake. That will work only if you have asked your telephone company for an email account; but that circumstance is rare.
Authorisation
I case you need to be allowed to film a person, you are suggested to download the authorisation here; by this document, your movie might participate to the Festival Pocket Film in Paris and other events.
